ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

We pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters of the Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi people, where Picture Yourself is based, and acknowledge all First Nations peoples and Custodians across Country. We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present, recognising the vital role older people and Elders hold as knowledge keepers, storytellers, carers, teachers and cultural leaders within their communities.

We acknowledge that ageing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is shaped by the ongoing impacts of colonisation, inequitable healthcare, intergenerational trauma, and the over-representation of First Nations people in the criminal justice system as a result of systemic racism. We recognise the enduring strength, resilience and sovereignty of First Nations peoples, and the deep relationship they have always held, and will always hold, with land, waters, culture and community.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
